Buckminster Fuller Fly's Eye Dome - Miami Design District

Year: 2014

This composite dome was fabricated to the original Buckminster Fuller-designed shape. A laser scan of the original dome was used to create a parametric model of the structure.  The CNC cut tooling was designed and cut in-house. The structure was engineered to Miami-Dade County wind specifications (165+ MPH) while achieving Flame Smoke Toxicity (FST) requirements.

The structure serves as a pedestrian entryway to a below ground parking garage in the heart of the Miami Design District.
